Interview with Mila Nikolovska

Director of Private Dining Operations
London

Mila Nikolovska

How does your role contribute to the overall flight mission?

Once a flight is confirmed, clients have the option to choose meals from our dining menu available on the app or opt for a customized menu crafted by our dining specialists. After finalizing the menu with the client, the logistical aspect comes into play, involving extensive communication with different restaurants and coordinating deliveries to the airport. Our team plays a key role in ensuring a seamless in-flight dining experience for our clients. This aspect is crucial as clients evaluate the overall flight experience based on their in-flight dining experience, often unaware of the behind-the-scenes operations.

What inspired you to choose aviation as a career? How long has aviation been on your radar? Did you always want to work in aviation?

My passion for aviation developed during my studies. I’ve always loved exploring diverse cultures and cuisines, and the idea of settling in one place never appealed to me. Life is about experiencing various locations. My academic focus on travel and tourism management, including studying airline fare laws, further fuelled my desire to combine work with travel. I applied for a cabin crew position in the Middle East in 2003, marking the beginning of my aviation journey.

What has been your biggest achievement or hurdle that you have had to overcome at Vista?

I consider the expansion of the team and the development of individuals to be my most significant accomplishment. When I joined, we were a team of only four. Over the past 12 years, we have grown to a team of 44, with each member contributing to the team’s success and that of the company as a whole. Initially, finding the right balance within the team posed a challenge. It wasn’t easy, but I succeeded by listening—listening to each person. Understanding individuals better allowed me to make them comfortable in their roles, leading to better work.

How does Vista support your work life balance?

Balancing aviation demands with my personal life can be challenging, yet Vista’s global presence offers flexibility and support. Despite the operational nature of the business, the company accommodates varying schedules, ensuring a healthy work-life balance for its employees.

What advice would you give to younger women thinking about getting into the industry?

“The sky is the limit.” Embrace self-belief and maintain a clear vision. Many individuals lose sight of their vision midway through their careers. It’s crucial to distinguish yourself by embracing a different and unique approach in your endeavours. Remember, staying true to your vision can set you apart on the journey to success.
